MICRO BANKERS TRUST – ZAMBIA
Grameen Trust (GT) launched the Microfinance for Poverty Reduction Project (MPRP) in Zambia in July 2004. The initial goal of the project was to develop an effective microfinance program that would serve 2,400 of the poorest women with Grameen microfinancial services with the aim to alleviate their poverty; as well as develop local capacity in the operations of a best-practice sustainable microfinance institution (MFI).
The initiative was supported by the Governments of Zambia and Japan, as well as the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) - Zambia, and United Nations Volunteers (UNV). Micro Bankers Trust (MBT) has been a local facilitator of this project, and a recent independent review of MPRP commissioned by the UNDP and UNV Zambia found that MPRP was successful in implementing the Grameen model.
We are happy that Micro Bankers Trust is using Savings Plus software, in delivering their mandate, with about 18 branches country-wide.
